43ft Sportfish Hull Tooling
In this project AMS designed the hull for a high performance sportfish and from concept, to final delivery of production tooling, all design work was done on computers. Once the team at AMS was satisfied with the form of the hull a 3D surface file was transmitted via Email to the tooling builder where a full-size male plug was cut from foam by a five-axis router.
Once the plug was cut it was carefully finished to an automotive-quality level. Because the design was completely digital, perfect symmetry was realized and the smallest details in the strakes and steps were produced to within a few thousandths of an inch.
The completed male plug was then used as a form in which to construct a production mold, complete with rotator for more efficient laminating. Heavy structural steel elements maintain the mold's shape which is crucial for installing the match-fit internal structural grid.
